The musical selections on the CCX Cross Cultural X-Periment recording the vanguard offer a fusion of musical genres. A unique blend of folk and traditional instruments. This is a true cross-cultural musical exploration, and a combination of masters of folk music. All of the selections were composed and arranged in the traditional style of folk music and influenced by the vast genres of world music. Compositions are based on the folk tunes, but also driven by improvisation. Let the crossing of cultural musical experiment begin.

I. Rio de Kyiv

“Rio de Kiev” makes use of a Brazilian samba feel.

II. Invasion
Composer – Alexander Fedoriouk       Arranged by Alexander Fedoriouk & N. Scott Robinson & Eric Hosemann.
“Invasion” features Balkan rhythms in 7 beats. Some of the melody is based on traditional Moldavian folk music.

III. Black Sea

“Black Sea” makes use of a Brazilian baio beat & feel as well as Eastern European melodic style.

IV. Once Upon a Time in Chernobyl

Mini progressive-folk-rock opera, inspired by the unfortunate Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine in May 1986. The three parts of this peace represent events before, during and after the disaster.

V. V Nebo

“V Nebo” (Into the sky) translated from Ukrainian. This tune features Jamaican ska and Andean feels.

VI. Moldavian Triptych

“Moldavian Triptych” is based on traditional Moldavian melodies with a funk feel.

VII. George’s Cell (for George Crumb)

“George’s Cell” is based on a harmonic fragment, or cell, from Crumb’s piece Makrokosmos III in a swing waltz feel.

VIII. For Herbie (for Herbie Mann)

“For Herbie” is dedicated to Herbie Mann, who inspired Alexander while working on his last CD Eastern European Roots. This piece feature Balkan rhythms in 11 beats.

IX. Oj Spala Ja Na Sini
Traditional Carpatho-Russyn song arranged by Alexander Fedoriouk
“Oj Spala Ja Na Sini” translates as “I was sleeping in a haystack..”. This version is a contemporary take on a traditional folk song from the Carpathian region.

X. Gypsy Jazz

“Gypsy Jazz” is a piece employing the Arabic mode Hijaz and was inspired by the Balkan brass bands
